AMERICANS DEFEATED,

SYDNEY, November 21.

At the Victorian Championship meeting Brookes and Wilding, (winners of the Davis Cup) defeated Alexander and Wxight (America) in the Doubles Championship bv 6—3, 6—2, 4—6, 6—2.

MELBOURNE, November 22,

Owing to the rain, play in the championships was delayed till the afternoon. The courts were slippery. The interest in the Doubles match drew a large attendance. Early in the play it was apparent the Americans were suffering from the muggy heat. A succession of faults gave the Australians a good lead, and they gained the first three games. Brookes and Wilding both played brilliantly throughout, working together like clockwork. The third set was exciting, the Americans pl&y being beautiful tennis, their playing especially being brilliant. In the final set the Australians had all their own way and won the championship amid great cheering.
