MELBOURNE, November 22,
Owing to the rain, play in the championships was delayed till the afternoon. The courts were slippery. The interest in the Doubles match drew a large attendance. Early in the play it was apparent the Americans were suffering from the muggy heat. A succession of faults gave the Australians a good lead, and they gained the first three games. Brookes and Wilding both played brilliantly throughout, working together like clockwork. The third set was exciting, the Americans pl&y being beautiful tennis, their playing especially being brilliant. In the final set the Australians had all their own way and won the championship amid great cheering.
