EARL OF CREWE'S VIEWS,

The Earl of Crewe, in an interview I with Mr Daniel O'Connor, of Sydney, expressed surprise that Australia lagged behind Canada, South Africa, and New Zealand in encouraging immigration. He had pleaded the appointment of a High Commissioner for the Commonwealth, and more than once urged that the early selection of a well-informed representative would be highly useful to the Colonial Office and highly beneficial to the Commonwealth.
