It is reported that IVrs Harrison 'Lee, the well-known temperance lecturer from Australia, was married on Tuesday to ,Mr Andrew Cowie, settler, of Winton. The Rev. L. Thompson, of Carterton, is still in Dunedin, for the benefit of his health, wn les our Car- • terton correspondent, and it will be some time yet before he will be able to resume charge of his parish at Carterton. It is rumoured in legal circles in Wellington that Dr. McArthur, S.M., will be offered the commissionership of one of the new counci Is of arbitra- * tion to be constituted under last session's Industrial 1 Conciliation and Arbitration Act. Dr. McArthur, it will be remembered, was the arbitrator in the Auckland tramways dispute. A presentation was made to Mrs Hill, wife of Mr C. -F. Hill, stationmaster at Masterton, by the choir of St. Matthew's Church, Master- , ton, on Friday evening. Mrs Hill v has been an active and willing worker in all church matters, an d her departure will be keenly felt by the choir and the members of the church generally. The Kev. Watson made the presentation, which consisted of a handsome set of silver vases and a prayer book, both suit- j ably inscribed, and in doing so assured the recipient of the best wishes of her Masterton friends for her future welfare. Mr-Hill responded on his wife's behalf. "Auld Lang Syne"' and the National Anthem were sung at the conclusion of the function. Miss 'Keith was responsible for the very artistic inscription cnthe prayer book.
