ADMIRAL POORE.
BANQUET AT WELLINGTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, November 20. Admiral Sir Richard Foore, Com-mander-in-Chief of the Australian Squadron, was tendered a public welcome in the Town Hall to-night, organised by the Wellington branch of the Navy League. The Hall was packed. Among those present were His Excellency the Governor, Sir Joseph Ward, Dr and Mrs Findlay, and the Hon. T. W. and Mrs Hislop. Lord Plunket extended to Admiral Poore and his officers and men a hearty welcome to Wellington. He said he thought there was cause for satisfaction in the fact that the increased subsidy of the Dominion to the Navy had been given without the imposition of any conditions. Sir Richard Poore, in his reply, spoke highly of the work of the Wellington branch of the Navy League. A strong navy took in its wake peace and not war. He complimented New Zealand on its generous contribution to the Navy. He spoke of the necessity of being able to quickly concentrate the fleet.
