"BE PREPARED FOR WAR."
Dr. Riley, Bishop of Perth, interviewed upon his arrival in Australia from England, said he went as one of a deputation of three from the Lambeth Conference with a resolution to the Peace Conference. When he entered the hall, he saw a large placard advising parents not to let their children have any; military training at schools. In the course of remarks he said Australia had military training cadets, and he hoped to have universal military training in Australia; not in any warlike spirit, but simply in the interest of peace, which was wanted in Australia to develop its resources. War often arose through irresponsible talk by people who had nothing or very little at stake. If such people knew that in the event of war they would be called upon to right they would perhaps be careful what they said. The members of the PanAnglican Conference disapproved of his views, but most of the papers were on his side.
