In connection with the Oroua election 31 absent voters' papers have been opened, and these have reduced Mr Guthrie's absolute majority to 16. 39 papers have still to come and a second ballot is possible, but very unlikely. CHRISTCHURCH, November 18. Owing to a second return from the Foresters' Hall not having been counted in the Christchurch East voting Mr T. H. Davey's majority £is materially increased. The missing figures were Boxshall 40, Cooke 72, Davey 379, McCombs 153. This makes the totals for the seat: Boxshall, 505; Cooke, 576; Davey, 3873; McCombs, 2004.
THE OPPOSITION'S GAIN. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, November 18. Mr Massey, interviewed, said the Opposition, on the returns to hand, had not lost a man. There were five new Opposition memberd at least, with quite a number of possibilities on the second ballot. The country had pronounced an overwhelming verdict for the freehold.
AN ANALYSIS. THE GOVERNMENT'S''POSITION. Owing to the large number of second ballots that are rendered necessary as the result of Tuesday's polling, it is impossible at present to give a complete analyois of the position of parties in the new House. Below are the results at the present time. Thirty-seven candidates forfeited their deposit of £lO. Eight members of the last Parliament have so far, failed to be re-elected. Summary. DUNEDIN, November 18. i The corrected returns for Dunedin South Local Option Poll show ihe following results.—Voters 7.C16, Continuance 3,221, Reduction 3,700, No-License 4,048. Reduction carried by 42 votes. The latest returns from Bruce arej ' —Voters 4,896, Continuance 1,868, Reduction 2,434, No-License 2,968. No-License carried by 30 votes; - twenty permits to come, but these cannot affect the result. WELLINGTON, November 18. *' The counting of 39 seamen's rights and absent voters' papers in the Wellington Suburbs Licensing Poll, has increased the No-License majority to 33. The statement that No-License was carried in Wanganui was a mistake. The valid votes numbered 6,480, and nothing but continuance was carried. NAPIER, November 18. Hawkt's Bay—Continuance 3,040, Reduction 1,497 No-License 2,476. Votes recorded 5,927.
