The death isJHmounced of Mr John P. Guthrie onljrof the pioneers of the Thames goldfields. - Mrs Reeves, wife of Mr Reeves, M.L.C., died at Nelson on Tuesday after a lingering illness. Mr K. McKenzie, the wellknown horse owner of Featherston, is again seriously ill, and his condition is causing his relatives and friends mucn alarm. Dr Mackay, of Dannevirke, sustained a painful accident on Saturday afternoon, while opening a tin of aluminium paint. When the air was | let into the tin, the mass appeared to j explode, and a quantity of paint was forced into his right eye. ?At St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Carterton, yesterday afternoon, Mr Chas. Callender, of the Carterton'railway staff, but who was recently " transferred to Petone, was married to Miss Ethel Burnett, sixth daughter of Mrs Burnett, of Carterton. The Rev. Jas. McCaw, of Martinborough, was the officiating clergyman. A pretty wedding took place at St. Mark's Church, Carterton, yesterday afternoon, the contracting parties being Mr Harry Pickering, son of the late Mr G. H. Pickering, of Wellington, and Miss Evelyn Turley, daughter of Mr Jas. Turley, of Carterton. The Rev. R. Young, vicar of St. Mark's, performed the ceremony, in the presence of a large number of friends.'
