SYDNEY, November 17. Mr JReid,- in resigning the leadership of the Federal Opposition, stated that the situation which had arisen in Federal politics made it necessary that he should resign, so tfiat the poskidn ml ght be Occupied by someone' able id give that close individual attention which the situation deffianJed. The "Herald," while regretting that the decision was the only solution of a difficult position, hopes that it will be the first step towards welding together the Liberal sections of the House."
The "Telegraph" says:—"The resignation offers a tactical opportunity, if not to bring about union in Parliament, to forcibly point its necessity out to the people."
