A GENEROUS GIFT.
In deciding to give a conation of five hundred pounds towards the construction of a bath for women and girls, Dr W. H. Hosking has given evidence that he possesses a public spirit of a very laudable character. The gift is certainly of a generous nature, and will, no doubt, be greatly appreciated by those whom it is desired to benefit, while the whole community will be pleased with the action of Dr Hosking. The gift will, also, remove the unavoidable dissatisfaction that has existed for some time past in connection with the time-table of the Borough baths. At present certain hours are set apart for bathers, according to sex, and the result is unsatisfactory for those who wish to indulge in daily bathing at regular hours. Some towns are fortunate in the matter of benefiting by gifts, bequests, endowments, and so forth, but Masterton, in the past, has not been particularly fortunate in the respect mentioned. We trust that "the moral benefit"—if we may so phrase it—of the doctor's gift, will result, in the course of time, in other public spirited actions of a similar character.
