THE WAIRARAPA CONTEST.

To the Editor.

Sir, —Permit me, through your columns, to address those to whom I have been unable to speak in public meeting assembled. It was impossible, in the time at my disposal, to reach all the places, and therefore I desire to adduce one or two facts and reasons why the settlers of the new portions of the Electorate, as well as the old, should consider my claims to re-election: — 1. As you all know, from beinglargely roadless, bridgeless, and locked up, my constituency is now fairly roaded and bridged, and there has been some closer settlement carried out.

2. It is my earnest desire that more close settlement should take place, and I pledge myself to that work and to the completion of the roads, bridges and tracks still needed by the settlers out-back.

3. I am a freeholder {with limitation of area), and I believe in fostering the primary industries by every possible legitimate means. 4. I support the party of "Progress with Safety," as against the party of stagnation on the one hand, and of Revolution on the other. I am, briefly, a Moderate. 5. My claim to your support rests on the solid foundation of work accomplished, and I respectfully urge you to poll your votes for me on the 17th inst. The only thing that can diminish the Liberal majority is indifference. Therefore, foil your "votes! Faithfully yours, J. T. M. HORNSBY. Carterton, Nov. 12, 1908. —(Advt)J
