The lot of the north country settler is hard (says the Auckland "Star.") Mr Rowland Hill writes from Whangarei to say that on the 18th of last month a packhorse sank in the mud of the alleged road two miles above the Mangakahi bridge. There was a buggy already stuck there inextricably for over a month, and the read is only 14ft wide. It therefore became necessary to remove the horse if any fairway was to be'preserved, so the owner shot the poor beast and took him away piecemeal. At this same spot Mr Hill lost £l2 worth of grass seed in a flood 18 months ago. About five miles further on the man's riding horse got bogged, but Mr Hill's son helped him out. Mr. W. C. Wocknev, Toowoomba, Queensland, writes: Chamberlain's Cough Remedy is an excellent "Kcmecly. I have been suffering from a severe coid for the last two months and it Iws effected a cure. It im a pleasure forme to recommend it to anyone with a bad cold. : ' This is the opinion of one of the oldest and most respected residents of Toowoomba, and lius been voluntarily ;;ivtn in faith that others might try Chamberlain's' Cough Kcmcdy and be beneiited as ho was. r'or sale by all chemists and storekeepers.
