LEVEN REASONS AGAINST If No-Liconso is carried in Masterton, every hotel, wholesale house, and bottle store will he closed up, and nobody will be able to purchase liquor of any kind in Masterton. This is decidedly tyrannical and mi]ust. ' J a ,i . If vou desire to purchase any li.juor you will have to order it from some ether district under License, would have to state that the hctuor you want is intended to be sent into Masterton, and your name and address would have to bo i given to the merchant in writing. The merchant would then be required to send your name and address to the Clerk of tho Magistrate's Court, describing both the nature and tho quantity ot the l For any breach of these laws you would bo liable for a first offence to a penalty of £2O. and for a second offence to a penalty of £bQ. Fifth: If No-License is carried in Masterton you would be liable to have your liouso raided by the police, ovon on " suspicion : ' that you were selling liquor. The police could seize any found in your house, and if they found more than they deemed a roasonablo quantity it would bo prima facie evidence that you were unlawfully sellin" liquor, and you would have to satisfy the Magistrate that you wero not. If the Magistrate was not satisfied ho could sentence you to a term of imprisonment. This is Ayraimy of the worst kind, and this is No-licenso. No-License is a tyranny t.> the working man, because it favors the rich and robs the poor. Seventh : It is therefore class legislation of the worst land. Tho rich man can enjoy his privileges. Tho poor man must go without them. Eighth: These privileges are already much curtailed. No matter what the increase of population may be the law allows no increase of Licenses. Ninth: No-License acts on the principle that the working man is uioro immoral and degraded, and must be kept in order by forco. The rich man can take care of himself. - No-License has ruined Ashburton. Restoration of Liconses there was only prevented by tho unholy alliance between the prohibitionist and the sly-grog seller. Eleventh : No-License is therefore most insulting to the worker, and for these reasons every working man, to preserve his self-respect and his liberty, should .core on Election day.
