BOWLING.
HUTT v. MASTERTON. A very pleasant day was spent on the Masterton Bowling Green yesterday, when a match was plajed between four rinks of the Hutt Bowling Club and four rinks of the Masterton Club.
The visitors, to the number of fourteen players, several accompanied by their wives and other lady members of their families, arrived by the 10 a.m. train from Wellington, the party numbsring about thirty all told. They were met at the station by the President of the Masterton Club (Mr J. M. Coradine), the secretary (Mr C. D. King), and others, and driven to the green, where a large attendance of local players was in readiness to play them. Four rinks of the Masterton Club were chosen, and a match was played between the visitors and the local men, which occupied until an hour or so after luncheon, the visitors then taking part in various friendly games with members of the Masterton Club. The result of the match was a win for Masterton, who won three rinks out of four, and on Ihe aggregate scored 94 to the Hutt men's 61, leaving a margin of 33 in favour of Masterton. McEwen, Blinkhorne, Ewington, Coradine (skip), 20, beat Udy, Percy, Murphy, and Hendry (skip), 15.
Prentice, Mutrie, Scott and Cochrane (skip), 35, beat Petersen, Knight, Eddie and Trevethick (skip), 10.
W. Pragnell, Cameron, Rose and O. Pragnell (skip), 22, beat Allsop, Pole, Barton and Hallard (skip), 16. Richards, Townsend, Rigg and Perry (skip), 20, beat Judd, Davidson, Russell and Henry (skip), 17.
The vis'itors were entertained at luncheon at the Prince of Wales' Hotel, while afternoon tea was provided on the green by various ladies, wives of members of the Masterton Club. The visitors expressed themselves as having enjoyed themselves greatly, and before they left to catch the 5.30 train for home Mr W. Kendry made a speech of thanks. Mr Coradine replied on behalf of the Mastertun Club, stating that hia Club was delighted to have had the pleasure of the visitors' company for the day. Hearty cheers were then exchanged, and the visiters took their departure.
