ATTEMPT ON A LIEUT.GOVERNOR'S LIFE.
Received November 9, 10.15 p.mCALCUTTA, November 9. Professor Burton, of Chicago University, was about to give a lecture in Overtown Hall in Northern Calcutta, when a Bengali youth, afterwards giving the name of Roy Chowdhury, rushed forward and thrust a revolver within six inches of Lieut. Governor Fraser and pulled the trigger. Twice the revolver missed fire. The youth was quickly disarmed. Meanwhile the Maharajah of Burdwan had stepped forward shielding Lieut -Governor Fraser. This is the fourth attempt made on the Lieut.-Governor's life. The newspaper "Englishman" considers that the anarchist propaganda is deeper and wider than anybody supposed.
