"TEN REASONS" BY MR McLAREN

Mr D. McLaren, Labour candidate for Wellington East, gave tejn reasons "why you should vote Independent Labour." The list was:—(l) The present Government has thrown Labour on one side; it is now a Liberal, party and no Labour. (2)The present Government is that which tried to introduce a sweating wage system (the exertion wage proposal of Dr Findlay). (3) The present Government has, in amending the Arbitration Act, strengthened the bad prin-

ciple of judge-made law in industrial affairs. (4) The present Government has validated the decision of a majority of the Arbitration Court, in refusing an award to the agricultural workers, by giving the Court full power to refuse to make j an award whenever it pleases—thereby killing unionism in the country districts. This is what the Farmers' Union asked. (5) The present Government carries on a cheap labour immigration system on behalf of the farmers and farming companies, and refuses to protect the farm workers. (6) The present Government's loose immigration system is bringing many people into the country on false representations. (7) The present Government is that which proposed to liberally "gag" the people between the taking of first and second ballots. (8) The present Government has amended the Public Works Act in a direction which will allow the fullest private exploitation of the Dominion's water rights—opening the door wide to possible corruption of the worst kind. (9) The present Government has provided for imprisonment on account of strikes in connection with services which are not publicly owned. (10) The Labour men, who are out as candidates, are strongly opposed to these abuses of the Government's power, and will tight for a cleaner democracy, founded on principles of justice to all, monopoly for none.
