JUST FIGURE THIS OUT.
(To the Editor). Sir, —lf this little comparison will turn only half a dozen votes in favour of No-License, then I am satisfied. At the present time, from the Masterton electorate, in rents, amount paid for liquor and interest, quite £IOO.OOO leaves every year for Wellington and stays there. Just suppose that the carrying of No-License means a loss to this electorate of £75,000 per annum (a ridiculously large margin to allow), then we benefit to the extent of £.25,000 per annum, which at present just glides out of circulation from here. Anyhow, if a business man discovered a leakage in his cash takings of a shilling a day he would put in a plug. Masterton electorate, as a trading concern, is leaking to the extent of £IOO,OOO a year. Just striking out the top line on the 17th will stop that. —I am, etc., HU-GH D. McD. Masterton, November 3rd.
