Dr and Mrs Dawson, of Pahiatua, ■who have been on a six months' visit to England and the Continent, returned heme yesterday.

Mr S. Inder, Postmaster at Masterton, left on a visit to Auckland yesterday. He will be away about a fortnight.

News was received in Pahiatua yesterday morning that Mr T. Hall, eldest son of Mr John Hall, of Pahiatua, had died on Wednesday night at Levin.

Miss Muriel Roydhousa, who has been in charge of the Carterton Public Library for about five years, has resigned her position.

Mr C. F. Hill, Masterton's popular stationmaster, has received notice of his transfer to Hawera, at which station Mr Hill was located previously for tnirteen years.' The Rev. Mr Davidson, of St. Peter's Church, Palmerston North has been appointed to act as colleague to the Rev. Alfred Clarke, of Taradaie, Hawke's Bay, and will reside in the Puketapu district. Mr and Mrs H. Callister, who have been on a trip to the Old Country, have arrived back in Wellington. They are expected to reach Carterton this evening, and will be accorded a welcome home by the Methodist Church on Thursday>vening next. At a concert given in the Olympic Theatre, Pahiatua, on Wednesday evening, in aid of the Pahiatua School funds, Mr J. J. Boagey, on behalf of the Pahiatua Cricket Club, presented Mr J. S. Webb, late of the teaching staff of the Pahiatua School, with an illuminated address. Mr Webb has been the recipient of numerous other tokens of esteem, including a case of pipes from tne officers of Lodge Tararua. a handsome flower stand from the girls of the school, and a set of silver-backed brushes from the boys of the school. Miss Ivy Salvin, the erstwhile resident of Wellington, who rpceived substantial damages from Mr P. P. Bigwood, in settlement of a threatened breach of promise action, after he had married the actress, Miss Carrie Moore, has created another social sensation by becoming enaged to Mr Alex. Levien, son of Mr R. H. ievien, M.P., known as "tne father of the New South Wales Assembly." The marriage, according to "Sunday Sun," was to have taken place on Friday last. Miss Salvin has abandoned her newly-adopted profession, and is to reside on Ker husband's station, about a hundred miles from Melbourne. The bridegroom is a man of means.
