CONSTRUCTION OF POWNALL STREET.
A COMPLAINT. (To the Editor.) Sir,—On my return home, I was surprised to find that nothing whatever had been done in the 'matter of the construction of that portion of Pownall Street, between Renall and Cornwall Streets. To my knowledge a resolution of the Council was passed, fully twelve months ago, instructing the Works Committee of the Borough Council to proceed with the work. Does the construction of this road possess engineering difficulties beyond- the powers of the Council, or is it a case of procrastination, putting off all work of a like description until the winter months, when it will cost 25 per cent. more?. The money is available—why not do the work now? There are men in the town that would be glad of a job. I would suggest that the Committee wake up out of their lethargy, and put this work in hand without further delay.—l am, etc., P, W. TEMPLE.
