Mr S. E. M'Carchy, S.M.. resumed his seat on the Bench at Napier on Tuesday after three months' leave of absence owing to ill-health. Miss Smith one of the most popular officials in the postal service on the Manawatu line, has severed her connection with the Department, and has returned to Kakariki (Pahiatua). Lieut-Col. J. Drummond (Dannevirke),;of the sth Wellington Battalion, R.V., is returning to the Dominion by the Corinthic from a trip to England. Sir John Logan Campbell, the father of Auckland, celabrated his ninety-second birthday on Tuesday. A great many citizens called at. his office-to congratulate him. In reply to enquiries, he said that he had never felt better in his life. "I have not an ache or pain anywhere," he remarked, "and I have never known what such a thing meant." Among the sheaf of congratulatory telegrams received by Sir John was a cablegram from Lady Florence Onslow and the Hon. Huia Onslow,, a native-born New Zealander, who, some two years ago, revisited the land of his birth.
