POLITICS OVERSHADOWED.
In conversation with a "Tirnaru Herald" reporter, the Hon. Mr M'Nab said he had been struck with the fact that in the South Island, in NoLicense electorates in the extreme south of the island, there was practically no contest, and there was a great lack of interest in political matters. He hardly knew why this was so, but he suggested that it was owing to the No-License question having been settled in these particular electorates, and, having been settled, the people seemed to take little or no interest in the election without it. These remarks applied to electorates where Opposition candidates as well as Government supporters were standing, so that the
lack of interest could not be attributed to political "colour." If his suggestion was right, that the settlement of the licensing question took all interest from the election it indicated the necessity of taking away licensing matters from the general election as soon as possible.
