Penates went a mile in lmin 45j3-ssec, and appears to be in great heart. Gipsy Belle easily defeated Gold Crest over half a mile in 49 l-ssec., Mahuta did six furlongs in lmin ISsec, and Master Delaval, Zimmerman and Grand Slam went two miles at three-quarter-paco, brushing home over the last four furlongs, Master Delaval holding the others safe. Diabolo held All Red safe over a mile and a quarter, cut out in 2min 15 S-Oaec. Lady Medallist defeated Latchet over four furlongs in 49 4-ssec, Tangimoana beat Advantage over six furlongs in lmin- 17sec, Apa ran six furlongs alone, Downfall did a strong working gallop of a mile and a half, the last ten furlongs occupying 2min IS 2-ssee. Lyrist was set a good schooling task over six flights. After breakfast, Stormont and "Whatakura fenced well. Pellicle and Ennuis were given strong work with sweaters on. Half to threequarters work was the portion of the others out.

The date of closing nominations for the Woodville District Jockey Club's race meeting has been altered to Thursday, November 19th, and the weights will be declared on Monlay, 23rd instant.

The best training gallop registered at Riccarton during the past week was executed by the Masterton mare, Riftemaid, who, on Saturday morning, badly beat Lapland over a mile and a quarter in 2min 10 l-ssec. The most brilliant six furlongs was that shown by Sunbonnet, who slipped over six furlongs in the fast time of lmiu 14|ser. On the previous morning Moloch was too good for Glenullin and Riflemaid. This goes to prove that A. McGrath has his charges exceptionally well. At Clareville, yesterday morning, good working gallops were shown by ! Diplomatic, Kuranui, Oblivion, Merrie Christmas and several others. A number of visiting hoises are expected there by Saturday next. [t is stated that Sir Frisco will be taken down to the Canterbury meeting, if this be so he will not be a starter at the Taratahi-Carter-toa meeting, where he ranks as topweight in the County Cup. The Wairarapa horses nominated for the Feilding meeting are San * Julie, Riflemaid, Sen Sim, Blue Ribbon, Merrivonia, and Golden Butterfly. The Melbourne Cup will be run today, and the New Zealand Cup decided on Saturday next. Acceptances for the TaratahiCarterton meeting will close tomorrow night. It is expected there

ers, and the meeting should be a x successful one. The stewards' stand and offices just erected at a cost of £950 will prove a valuable addition to the appointments. In the New Zealand Cup, F. D. Jones, is to ride Zimmerman; C. Brown, Master Delaval; A. Olliver, Frisco; W. Yoqng, Tangimoana; C. Jenkins, Mahuta; H. Cairns, Apa; L. Wilson, Downfall; W. H. McKay, Riflemaid; and R. Hatch,Moloch. T. Carroll is to have the mount on Truganini in the Stewards' Handicap, C. Jenkins will ride Gold Crest, A. Olliver Penates, F. Davis Bobrikoff, R. Hatch Mon Ami, and C. / Brown Master Soult. ! A race that will create a deal of interest at the Canterbury meeting is the Welcome Stakes for two-year-olds, in which Mr W. E. Bidwill's Provocation and Expansion will meet the high-class Elysian, Sir G. Clifford's Broadsword and Applegarth, and several other brilliant juveniles.
