The Hon. Dt Collins, M.L.C., will leave on a trip to England early in December,
Mrs Elizabeth Burton, an old resident of Wanganui, died in the hospital there on Wednesday night. The deceased was 88 years of age. Captain J. C. McKillop, of the Masterton Mounted Rifles, received on Saturday his commission as Captain of the Company.
Miss Hughes, who is to succeed Miss Haslani as assistant teacher at the Newman School, is to be tendered a welcome social by the residents of that district shortly.
The Hon. Hall Jones will leave New Zealand on December 3rd by the Corinthic for London, to take up duty as High Commissioner, states a Press Association telegram.
The Rev. J. Rattray having resigned his appointment as home missionary at Morere, Hawke's Bay, to take up a similar position at Pongaroa, within the bounds of the Wellington Presbytery, will leave for his new sphere of labour on November 11th.
The death occurred at Putiki, Wanganui, on Thursday morning, of a little Maori girl named "Webbina" Takarangi, daughter of Hori Takarangi, and grand daughter of old MeteKingi, a famous old warrior. The girl, who was born on August 3rd, 1907, was christened " Webbina" because that was the day on which W. Webb defeated Towns for the sculling championship cf the world. It will be remembered that the christening ceremony took place during the time Tresidder was over here, that sculler, and also Webb, attending the function, which was held at Putiki pah.
Miss Haslam, until recently assistant teacher at the Newman School, was tendered a farewell social hy the residents of the district on Thursday night, in the Newman Ball. During the evening Mr T. Moss, Chairman of the Eketahuna County Council, on behalf of the residents of the district, presented Miss Haslam with a handsome silvermounted brush and comb. M?ss Haslam was also the recipient of a presentation from the school children. Dancing was indulged in until an early hour on Friday morning. The music was supplied by Misses Williams and Cousins, and extras were played by Misses Tuckwell and Hughes and Master Manguson. Songs were sung by Messrs King and Calton #nd Miss Haslam.
Mr J. T. Lang has severed his connection with the Hawke's Bay Dairy Company, and intends entering into business on his own account. He has been a director of the company since its inception., Mr Lang was one of the first dairying experts appointed to the Government service, and he did good work in establishing the factory system on a sound basis. Subsequently he left the State service to manage the Defiance business, resigning that position to join Mr C. Rt Beattie, then secretary of the National Dairy Association, as factory proprietors and dairying agents. The new firm finally extended the scope ofjtheir operations by amalgamating with the Crown Dairy Company's business in the Hawke's Bay district under the style of the Hawke's Bay Dairy Company.
