PERSONAL.
The appointment of Mr C. C. Graham (lately stipendiary magistrate at Dunedin) as chairman of the Licensing Committees of the Wanganui and Manawatu districts, has been gazetted. The resignations of the following teachers have been accepted by the Education Board:—Miss C. E. lOri, Manga pakeha; Miss. L. Ainsworth, Saunders' Road; and Mrs Wakelin, cookery instructress. Mr F. G. Wayne, inspector !Tof stock, has been transferred to the veterinary'division of the Department of Agriculture, and will leave Masterton in a few days to take up his duties as Inspector of Abattoirs at the Thames. The funeral of the late Mrs Hooper, of Carterton, took place at the Clareville Cemetery, yesterday afternoon. The cortege was a large W one. Mr A. R. Wallis, of the Plymouth Brethren Order, conducted the services at the graveside Mr K. Burgess returned to ~~ terton yesterday after attending the first Y.M.C.A. National Convention, which was held in Melbourne recently. There were 45 representatives present at the Conference from all parts of Australasia, including six from New Zealand. Mr F. W. Temple and his son Stanley, returned to Masterton on Thursday evening after a tour in the Old Country and France, extending over eight months. Mr Temple states that he has materially benefitted in health by his holiday, and thoroughly enjoyed himself during his absence from the Dominion. Mr E. E. Mrs and the Misses Chamberlain returned on Thursday evening to Masterton from their trip to Englr.nd and the Continent, which occupied them several months. They journeyed back by the China, Mr F. W. Temple being also a passenger in the same vessel. The family all greatly enjoyed their holi-J day, besides deriving benefit in health from the tour, which comprised visits to many of the great beauty spots of the Old Country and Europe. In St. Peter's Schoolroom, Pahiatua, on Wednesday evening, Mr and Mrs J. S. Webb were entertained by a large number of friends and parents of the school children at a farewell social. Mr W. H. Hawk r ins wrote apologising for his unavoid--1 able absence. Mr W. Norrell, oa behalf of the hosts, presented Mrs i Wsbb with* a handsome silver epergne. Several eulogistic speeches were made, and the heartiest good wishes were expressed for the future welfare of the guests.
