MASTERTON HOMING PIGEON CLUB.
SUCCESSFUL FLY FROM PICTON. A race was flown yesterday afternoon from Picton to Masterton, an air-line distance of just under 100 miles. Great interest centred in this event as it was the first over sea race attempted by the Club. Beautiful weather prevailed, but the wind was not apainst the birds, and the time registered was more than creditable. In fact the performance of the the pigeons in flying from Picton in 2hrs 26min, more than justified the expectations of the.owners. The result was as follows: Mr W. Hoar's Royal Mail, l,oß6Ayds per minute 1 Mr J. Bradbury's Riverside, I,oß6yds 2 Mr H. W. Lett's Wind, 1,074 yds 3 As will be seen from the velocities very little separated the placed birds, and the finish was very exiting. The winner takes a trophy bird donated by Mr Harle, of New Plymouth. The next race will, be from Nelson, the first prize being a valuable pair of young homers presented by Mr Abrahall, Secretary of the Petone Homing Club. The air-line distance to Nelson is about 140 miles.
