Mr Robert Paul has been appointed manager of the Hastings gasworks, vice the late Mr Wilkins. Mrs T. S. Weston, wife ot ex-Judge Weston, died at New Plymouth, yesterday morning. Mr Jos. Webb, who belonged to the 65th Regiment, and was an old pioneer of the Wanganui district, died on Tuesday. Bishop Williams, of Napier, who has been attending the Lambeth Conference, is a passenger by the Corinthic which is due at Wellington next Tuesday. Mr C. P. Skerrett, K.C., who is at present recuperating in the Blue Mountains, leaves Sydney for Wellington on November 7th. Mr E. Crisp, teller at the Stratford branch of the Bank of Australasia, has received notice of his promotion to the bank's Eltham branch. Dr Steven, who for many years practised in New Zealand, and more recentlj at Riverton, died at Vancouver this week (says the "Clutha Leader"). Dr Steven, who was a Canadian, married'the third daughter of Mr Richard Irving, senr., at Waiwera some seventeen years ago. The Prime Minister and the Hon. R. McNab have their headquarters at Invercargill at present. The Hon. J. A. Millar is at Dunedin, the Hon. G. Powldes at Auckland, the Hon. J. M'Gowan at the Thames, the Hon. J. Carroll at Gisborne, and the Hons. W. Hall-Jones and Dr Findlay in Wellington. The death occurred on Wednesday of Mr George Edwards, a residant of Napier of some tiiirty years' standing, who was formerly engrossing j clerk for the legal firm of Wilson and Cotterill and afterwards for some years for Messrs Cotterill and Humphries. Mr G. Mockler, who has held the position of bandmaster of the Napier Battalion Band for the past eight months, has resigned, and left yesterday for Nelson, where he takes up his old duty as conductor of the Nelson Citizens' Band. Mr F. T. Redman, who was one of the chief movers in establishing the Masterton Congregational Church, was the recipient of a handsomely framed engrossed address from the members of the Church at a meeting of the congregation last night. Mr A. Hendry made the presentation, Mr W. Pragnell supporting him. The latter said he had known presonally four generations of the recipients' family. Mr Redman suitably replied.
