THE Wairarapa Age MORNING DAILY. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29, 1908. WAIRARAPA'S SPRING SHOW.
The annual Show of the Wairarana and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society promises to be a distinct success. Favoured with fine weather the energetic officials, who have worked unremittingly for success, will gain their well-deserved reward. The present Show is not inferior to any which have preceded it. The entries in point of number are ahead of those received last year, while the show of dairy cattle is exceptionally good. With the public of Masterton "the Carterton Show" has always been a popular fixture, and no doubt a very large number of local residents will to-day visit the Show in the neighbouring town of Carterton. In fact the attendance on the People's Day of the Show will probably be a record. It is unfortunate that the second day of the Carterton Show "clashes" with the first day of the Masterton Racing Club's meeting, and the
error is one which really seems to have been quite avoidable. It is quite possible that neither institution will suffer very much by the clashing of dates, but, at the same time, the wishes of the public should be considered. To-day there' are quite a number of people who will have to make a choice between visiting the Show at Carterton, or the races at Opaki, and this is a position, we venture to remark, that should not arise. All institutions that look to the general public for support should consult the wishes of the public, and, obviously, it is neither considering the wishes of the residents of either North or South Wairarapa that the Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society and the Masterton Racing Club should provide public interest and recreation at the same time. We hope that better arrangements will prevail on future \ occasions.
