WELLINGTON, October 26. The High Commissioner cables as follows from London:— t Trades for all classes of mutton has been very slow and prices are barely maintained. River Plate, which is in large supply, is quoted at 3£d, Canterbury 4d, North Island 3Jd. The lamb market is firm with a good demand for pnme quality. Stocks on hand are light. Canterbury brands s£d, other than Canterbury 5Jd. The beef market is steady •and stocks of New Zealand on hand J are light. Hindquarters 3Jd, fore- , quarters 3Jd. j The butter market is very firm. Shipments by the Mamari arrived in | good condition, 125s per cwt being , :realise:l for this season's make. t Danish is quoted at 130s, Siberian 112s, Australian 1225, Argentine 120s, Canadian 119s. The cheese market is quiet with little doing, but a feeling prevails for forward delivery. Canadian makes 61s. The hemp market is dull, with very little business doing. Good fair grade on spot is quoted at £26. Fair grade - on ' spot, £23; fair current Manila on spot, £24; October to December shipments are quoted as follows:—Good fair grade, £25 15s; fair grade, £23; fair current Manila, .£24 per ton. Last week's output I from Manila amounted to 18,000 J bales. j The cocksfoot seed market is quiet, j and buyers are not keen to do busi- j ness. Bright clean 17lbs seed is i quoted at 85s per cwt.
