THE WOOL TRADE.

Mr Walter Hill, who is connected with the wool trade, and Chairman of the Cbristchurch Drainage Board, returned to New Zealand on Saturday, after a six months' business trip abroad. He states that business generally was bad when he left the Old Country, and the outlook was not very promising. The wool market was depressed, and the only business that was being done in that line was of a hand-to-mouth character. Asked what the opinion in England was about an improvement in prices, Mr Hill had to admit that there was no gleam of light at all, and that people had no idea when a change for the better would come. The opinion was that there would have to be a general settling down of values for two years. Abnormal prices had been paid for wool. A reaction from the prosperous cycle had now set in, with the result that lower prices must obtain for some time to come.
