ALLEGATIONS AGAINST J CANADIAN GOVERNMENT. CONSIDERABLE EXCITEMENT* OCCASIONED. PREMIER PRESERVES A SCORNFUL SILENCE. Received October 24, 8.11 p.m. LONDON, October 24. A Montreal correspondent states that the Opposition is freely making charges of graft against the Government. Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Premier, preserves a scornful silence in connection with the charges'. Considerable excitement was occasioned by the allegation of gross corruption in connection with the construction of the tran3-Continental railwav.
TEE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.
MR BRYAN'S EXPECTATIONS. NEW YORK, October 23. Mr Bryan hus large hopes of securing two million of the GermanAmerican votes, as the Democrats are more inclined than the Republicans to reduce the Customs rates. He also states that a quarter of a million Italian votes are largely Bryanite.
