STOCK MARKET.

SPRING CATTLE SALE. I . j Messrs Dalgcty and Company, Ltd., report as follows We held *our annual Spring Cattle Sale at our "Waipoua Sale Yards on Wednesday -last. The yarding was a satisfactory one, 1,470 cuttle of all descriptions coming forward. A number ofthe cattle showed signs of having come through a hard winter, the condition in many cases not being too good. A line of 280 steers from Mr H. Hume's "Aohanga" station was an excepion, and these cattle came under the hammor in good healthy store order, and met with keen competition. Another :line of 118 21 year steers, all good colours, were also in excellent sale condition, and although the lot was paased in under the hammer, they were disposed of by private treaty immediately after the sale. The competition all through was sound and good average values were obtained for all lines showing any quality. Young cattle especially were enquired for, and on the whole higher values were paid for this class of stock than older cattle. On the whole vendors and purchasers ideas of valaes were not far apart, and for k this reason good business resulted. Although we passed a few lines under the hammer, satisfactory private business was done after the sale, and eventually only two lines failed to find purchasers. Mr Hume's "Aohanga" cattle topped the market, a small line of very forward 4-year steers bringing . £B. Sixty 3 and 4-year steers made £6, 113 3 and 4-year steers made £5 2s 6d. On account of other vendors we sold as follows: —118 2£-year steers, £3 17s 6d; 3-year steers, £4 13s 6d to £4 17s; 18-month steers, £2 8s; empty heifers, poor -■ condition, 30s to 335; fat cows, £5 2s. Only a small yarding of sheep came forward, but competition was keen for ewes and lambs, which brought from 14s 3d to 15s.
