The secretary of *he Auckland Railway League has received the following communication from the Minister of Public Works:— "Owing to the weather retarding ballasting operations on the North Island Main Trunk line, the official opening will not take place until the special train, which will leave Wellington on Tuesday, November 3rd, and arrive in Auckland on the evening of Wednesday, November 4th, goes tln*ough. There will be a function in Wellington prior to leaving on the Tuesday, and it is proposed to stop at Makatote for about half an hour only, for the purpose of driving the last spike. We shall arrive at Auckland about G p.m. I shall be glad to know if this is a convenient arrangement." Mr G. L. Peacocke, chairman of the league, has replied stating that the arrangements are suitable. The commemorative banquet at Auckland is to be held after the train arrives there from Makatote, on Wednesday, November 4th, and a special return train will leave Auckland on the Thursday evening, and reach Wellington on Friday.
