HOMING PIGEON CLUB.
RACE PROM WELLINGTON. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club held a race from Wellington yesterday afternoon, under very trying climatic conditions. The birds had to contend with a gusty head wind, combined with heavy rain, during more than half of the journey. In fact, rain was reported falling almost incessantly until after Featherston was reached. The birds were liberated at 12.30 p.m., and the first birds arrived at their lofts at about twenty minutes past two. Considering the circumstances, this is a creditable performance, and shows that the Masterton Club possesses some of the best birds in the Dominion. Seconds only separated the first three birds. Following are the detailed results:--
Mr J. Bradbury's red ch. cock "Apollo/' 812 yds per minute 1 Mr 11. W. Lett's blue cock "Wind," 803 yds 2ft per minute 2 xMr H. M. Wilton's blue cock "Warwick," BQ3ydd lft per minute 3 Mr W. Hoar's "Royal Mai;," 788 yds per minute 4 Mr A. Miller's "Flashlight," 650 yds per minute 5
The winner takes one of Mr John Hurle's trophy birds. Next Thursday a race will be flown from Picton.
