A DESTRUCTIVE FIRE.
By Telegraph—Press Association'. INVERCARGILL, October 22. There was a dt-structive fire in Gladstone, a suburb of Invercargill, between three and four o'clock this morning. Two dwellings with their contents, except a piano, together with the Invercargill Tram Company's stables, were razed to the ground. The stables contained a number of carts, and none were saved. The fire started in the dining-room of a house occupied by a carter named Blick, and spread rapidly, fanned by a gale. No fire extinguishing appliances are possessed by the Gladstone Borough. The insurances are:—J. Brey's house, £175 in the New Zealand office. Bliek's furniture, £IOO in Standard. J. Haberfield's dwelling, £2OO in the South British; furniture and effects, £BO in the North British. Tramway stables, £240; cars, £4lO, both in the Standard ofiice.
