MASTERTON HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Hospital Trustees was held yesterday morning. There were I present—Messrs J. B. Keith (Chairman), R. Brown, W. Fisher, W. Harris, H. J. O'Leary, and J. J. Mead. The Treasurer's report was as follows:—General Hospital: Receipts, £7l 6s 3d; expenditure, £442 17s Id; credit balance at date, £2OO 2s Id. Fever Ward: Receipts, £l6 6s; expenditure, £27 14s; credit balance at date, £192 6s Bd. The Hospital Diary was read, and showed tohat there were twenty-one patients in the Hosnital at last meeting, thirty-seven having been admitted since, and thirty-one discharged, leaving twenty-seven remaining. -, Mr Fisher mjved that in future a record be kept of the number of Friendly Society patients admitted to the Hospital. The motion was carried. The question of outstanding patients' fees was brought up by the Secretary. It was decided to write off th'i amount due by one ex-patient, through his inability to pay on account of illness. The secretary was authorised to take proceedings to recover amounts due in two other cases. Messrs E. G. Eton arid H. T. Wood wrote to protest against the action of the Trustees at last meeting in allowing Mr St.George to transfer his contract te supply the Hospital with drugs, etc., during the current quarter, to Mr J. V. Gordon. The writers considered they should be given the right to a share of the term's supply. The Trustees, after discussion, decided that they could not, after having committed themselves, re-open the matter. A communication was read from the Inspector-General of Hospitals (Dr Valintine) giving an account of the recent conference of commissioners'appointed to consider the action of the District Hospital Board in reducing the estimates of the Trustees for the current year. The letter., stated that the estimates had been reduced by £62 10s. An application from the Education Department to be allowed to connect with the Hospital's high pressure water main was granted, conditionally un £25 being paid to the Trustees for the right. The application was granted subject to the Trustees reserving the right to discontinue the service if it were found to interfere with the Hospital supply.
The Treasuier stated that the sum of £267 13s 6d had been received in fees for the first half of the General Hospital's working, and £6B 7s for the Fever Hospital. The Trustees briefly discussed the case of a man admitted to the Hospital a while back suffering from delirium tremens, and who gave considerable trouble at the Hospital. It was resolved to ask the doctor who admitted the patient to furnish an explanation to the Trustees.
