HAWKE'S BAY SHOW.
By Telegraph —Press Association. NAPIER, October.2l. The Spring Show of the Hawke's Bay A. and. P Society opened at Hastings to-day. There were showers in the morning, but the rain cleared away in the afternoon. There are more horses, cattle and sheep exhibited than for some years past. The following is a list of competitions:—Champions: Draught Sire, J. D. Mitchell's Knight of Waihi; draught mare, Hon J. D. Ormond's Lady Glen; Shorthorn bull, Mount Herbert Estate's Lord Herbert 9th; Hereford bull, Frank Moore's Ensign; Hereford cow, H. M. Campbell's Polyanthus; Polled Angus bull, A. S. G. Carlyon's King of Standen; Polled Angus cow, J. A. Macfarlane's Hebe; Aryshire bull, Slack Bros. White and Rid; Ayrshire cow, Slack Bros'. Princess May; Alderney cow, P. Hunter's Magnet Maid; Lincoln ram, W. Perry (Masterton); Lincoln ewe, W. Peiry (Masterton); Border Leicester ram, Hon. J. D. Ormond; Border Leicester ewe, Douglas McLean; Romney Marsh ram, A. V. Collins; Romney Marsh ewe, G. E. Allen; Shropshire Down ram, R. R. Pitt; Shropshire Down ewe, J. B. Corrigan; Southdown ram, Ellis Bros.; Southdown ewe, Nelson Bros.; Berkshire boar, jSlack Bros.; Berkshire sow, E. White; Yorkshire sow, E. White; Tamworth sow, E. White. Competitions: Pony under 14| hands, driven by lady, Miss Dorothy MacNiven's Patch 1, Mrs Penrose Barcroft's Tommy 2, Mr A. Douglas Williams' gelding 3; Mr C. Stubbs' Steak vhc (eleven entries) ; pony under 13J hands, driven by lady, Miss Alison Wenley's Midge l, v Mrs J. W. White's Nigger, 2, Mrs N. Wellwood's Pipi 3, (six entries); ladies' jumping, Miss C. M. Burke's Gold Shower and H. Hassall's Froha equal 1, Miss Mason's Rajah 3 (twenty-three entries) ; ladies' driving competition, Tutiakitai's The Monkey, Miss Couper's Dolly Varden 2 (thirteen entries); hunters' jumping, E. Short's Blue Ribbon, F. A. Piper's Haerekimoa 2, W. C. A. Mackenzie's Wheraroa 3 (twenty-two entries). The sheep-shearing set down for the first day did not take place owing to the wetness of the sheep, and was adjourned till to-morrow.
