October 17th:— The mutton market is quiet, and steady, with better demand than supply of Canterbury mutton, which j is quoted as jncreasing. North Island brands are quoted at 3£d. The lamb market is very firm, with good demand for best quality, and small demand second class - quality. Canterbury lamb is quoted at 5Jd; other' than Canterbury s£d. j The beef market is dull. Holders i are firm, and hindquarters ara { quoted at 3gd, forequarters at 3|d. The butter market is firm, with im- , proved demand. Following are current quotations:—Danish, 12«s; this! seasonis Australian, 1203; Cat adian, > 116s; Siberian, 110s per cwt. The cheese market is quiet with a tendency in favour of buyers. Canadian makes are quoted at Gls. The hemp market is dull, and poor bu?inF§s has been clone. Current quotations ul 4 c as follows:—Good fair grade on spot £26, fair grade on spot £23, fair current Manila on spot £23 10s, October to December shipments good fair grade £25 15s, fair grade £22 15s, fair current Manila £23 10s. Last week's output from Manila amounted to 26,000 bales. The wool market is firmer, especially for first grades. Received October 19, 8.5 a.m. LONDON, October 18. Hemp—Market quiet and prices unchanged. Wheat —Fourteen thousand quarters of Australian December-January shipment and 8,500 of January-Feb-ruary shipment sold at 35s 6d, and 6,00u tons of January-February steamer shipment at 35s lOid. Rabbits—Market very firm. Large New Zealand's are retailing at 17s 6d; Sydney's at 17s; Melbourne's at 16s; young Sydney's, 14s 6d to 16s; young Melbourne's, 14s 6d to 15s 6d. Sheep—Canterbury, light, 4Jd; medium, 4 1-16 d; heavy, SJd; Southland, none offering; North Island, 3£d; best brands, 3|d.
