THE MAIN TRUNK LINE.

DATE OF OPENING. In the course, ot a chat with a Manawatu 'Sandard" reporter yesterday, Sir Jospeh Ward stated that the Main Trunk line would be opened for traffic on November 2nd, when a two-day's x service would be rommenced, it being considered inadvisable for the safety of the public to run during the night. This will mean that a train will leave Auckland in the morning and stop at some central place on the Main Trunk line during the night, proceeding next morning. Asked as to when he thought a daily service would be running the Premier expressed the opinion that it would be inaugurated early in December.
