The weights for the Masterton meeting should be followed by good acceptances. Well treated entrants in the Hack Hurdles are Master Douglas (lOst 4lbs), Speciosa (lOst 4lbs), Peregrine (9st lllbs), and Sherlock Holmes (9st 51bs). In the Hack Flying, Seaton Dale, 9st, has his full allotment when this season's form is taken into consideration; but Kelso (Bst 81bs) and Fulminator 7st, 91bs), read well, while two or three of the lower weights can gallop six furlongs in good time. The Masterton Cup allotments will genarally be considered as equitable, and if the majority start on the day the winner will not be easy to select. The" distance, one mile and a quarter, is quite far enough for some of the contestants, but the event is sure to be a very Interesting one. The running of Irish Rifle. King Post, Sandstream, San Julie and Silken Rein at Trentham this week may give the public an idea of their chances here, while Polyanthus (7stßlbs), Loiret (7st 81bs), Merrie Rose (7st 71bs), and Gaelic (7st 3lbs), are weli enough treated to ensure their facing the starter. In the October Hack Handicap, of one mile,- Kelso (Bst), Mikutahi (7st 13lbs), Buoyant (7st 121bs), and Hiehden (7st 4lbs), are nicely placed, and in the ordinary course of events should make the race interesting. Irish Rifle, Polyanthus, Loiret, Daisy Paul, Ikon, and Skye are in the Cup as well as in the Publicans' Handicap, so in the meantime the latter event is of a very open appearance. Several really fast sprinters are engaged in the Dash Hack, and these include Sir Artegt'L Axite) Tumut, Conquer, Advantage, Timothy, Golden Dream, and Vi, all of which have shown brilliancy of pacu. As New Zealand Cup day draws near-it is now only a matter of less than three weeks—interest in the big event is becoming keener. Zimmerman, Frisco, Gknullin, King Post, Mallet, Uhlando, Tip Toe, and Grand Slam will be running at the Wellington meeting this week. Moral has earned a penalty of 51be, by his win at Napier Park, Cricbton is reported to have gone sore in his work, Mahuta has been taken lown to Riccarton to undergo his final preparation,' and Bonny Glen is showing signs of lameness. Another payment is due on Friday, when it is expected about 35 will be paid up for. j
