"YOUTH OF THE CHURCH" SUNDAY.

SPECIAL SERVICES AT MASTERTON CHURCHES. Yesterday was "Youth of the Church" Sunday, a Sabbath set apart by the Methodist Conference and Presbyterian Assembly as a day for special services on behalf of the young people of the Church throughout the Dominion. «, At Knox Church the morning service was very well attended, and particularly by the younger scholars of the Sunday School. In view of the latter fact the Rev. A. T. Thompson, who occupied the pulpit, gave an address suited to youthful intellects, entitled "Christ and the Children," In the evening there was again a large attendance, the elder scholars of the Sunday School and the members of the Bible Class being fully represented. The Rev. Thompson gave a vigorous sermon specially directed to the needs ot the Church for young, virile Christians, the discourse being most interesting. Special music was used throughout the services, the choirmaster (Mr R. J. \foung) having the Sunday scholars well rehearsed for such. The collections for the day are to be devoted to a fund known as the "Youth _of the Church Fund." At the Methodist Church, the Rev. Buttle conducted two young people's services, one at 11 a.m. and the other in the afternoon. The attendance of Sunday School children and Bible Class students was very large, and the services were most hearty. The set service prescribed by the Conference was observed, with special music, and under the conductorship of Mr S. Ralph the latter part of the celebrations was most successful. The Rev. Buttle chose for both his addresses subjects suitable to the occasion. In the evening the Rev. J. J. Lewis, of Palmerston North, occupied the pulpit, and preached an eloquent sermon k of an allegorical nature, dealing with the great spread of the Church's influence throughout the world. The morning and afternoon collections go to the "Youth of the Church Fund," and the evening collections to the Maori and Home Mission Fund.jp-;, - „"-> ■
