HOUSE RENT.
According to a table published in the "Labour Journal," Wellington still maintains premier position among New Zealand cities for high houserents. The table shows the rents of houses let to workmen within a twomile radius of the post office, the houses containing four, five, six, and seven rooms. Four roomed cottacres, which in Wellington cost from 14s to 18s per week, are from 9s to 15s at Christchurch, 10s to 12s 6d at Auckland, and 10s to 13s at Dunedin. For a five-roomed house the Wellington rental ranges from 18s to 27s 6d, while in Christchurch it is from lis to 18s, in Auckland 12s to 15s, and in Dunedin 12s to 17s. Houses of six rooms cost in Wellington from 20s to 32s 6d per week, whereas ones of similar size can be obtained in Christchurch for from 12s 6d to 22s 6d, in Auckland from 16s to 21b, and in Dunedin from 17s to 22s 6d. The seven-roomed house in Wellington costs its tenant from 25s to 35s per week in rent, while in Christchurch the weekly payment would range from 15s to 30s, in Auckland from 20s to 255, and in Dunedin from 21s to 30s.
