THE SHIPBUILDING TRADE.
SIR C. FURNE3S' OFFER. VIEWS OF LABOUR M.P's. LONDON, October 9. Mr W. C. Steadman, Liberal and Labour M.P. for Finsbury Central, has had something to say regarding the offers of Sir Christopher Furness (head of the shipbuilding firm of Furness,'Withy and Co.) to sell to trade unions connected with shipbuilding his firm's shipyards at Hartlepool, or, as an alternative, admit them to co-partnership, provided they give a pledge not to strike. Mr Steadman says the offers are not worth the paper they are written on, and he is sure they will be rejected. Mr Richard Bell, Labour member for Derby, says that if neither offer is accepted it will be a serious reflection on organised labour.
