PERSONAL.
It is stated that Mr J. McKinnon, whj has been in charge of the Newman Railway Station, is to be transferred to Mangamahoe. Mr H. Wyatt, of the Masterton Telegraph staff, haa been transferred to Pahiatua, and will leave for that place to-day. At a gathering of railway employees at Scarborough Mr J. M. Leary, of the railway staff, who has been transferred t> the Traffic Department, was presented with a Gladstone bag and a travelling rug. Messrs R. Burgess and D. H. Fawcett, secretaries of the Masterton and Christchurch Y.M.C.A.'s, respectively, and delegates to the Y.M.C.A. National Convention to be held at Melbourne from October 14th to 21st, left for Sydney by the Moana on Friday. Mr H. N. Noakes, secretary of the Wellington Y.M.C.A., is already in Melbourne. The well-known sculler, G. Whelch, of Akaroa, left Wellington by the Moana on Friday afternoon for Sydney. Whelch is to row Thoroughgood on the Hunter River on November 21st for the championship of Australia and a stake of £2OO. In ths course of his rowing career the Akaroa oarsman has won twenty senior events, and has the distinction of having defeated William Webb in Wellington in 1905.
