THE WAIRARAPA SEAT.
One of the most interesting contests that will take place during the approaching General Election is that between Messrs W. C. Buchanan and J. T. M. Hornsby for the Wairarapa seat. This year the candidates, who have met no less than four times previously, on consecutive occasions, have a considerably larger area than formerly over which to conduct the contest. 'ln 1896 Mr Buchanan defeated Mr Hornsby by a fairly large majority, but in 1899 Mr Hornsby succeeded in "turning the tables." Mr Buchanan, however, who is of a wonderfully indomitable disposition, beat Mr Hornsby in 1902 by a small margin. In 1905 Mr Hornsby again contested the seat with Mr Buchanan, and secured a decided victory, polling over 500 more votes than his opponent. Again these aspirants for public honoars are at close grips and each candidate, it will be observed, has won two victories and suffered two defeats.
