UNION WITH GREECE FAVOURED. Received October 8, 5.25 a.m. LONDON, October 7. Cretans are preparing a coup d'etat in favour of union with Greece. EXCITEMENT AT CANEA. Received October 8, 10.11 p.m. LONDON, October 8. The Cretan Revolution developed with striking rapidity. Canea (the chief commercial town of Crete, on the north west coast) was early yesterday bedecked with Greek (lags. Then toscins were sounded and guns fired in the air. Ten thousand citizens assembled and listened to to inflammatory harangues. Resolutions were adopted determining to proclaim a union with Greece, and urge the Assembly to confirm the people's decision by an official vote.

The crowd then marched to the Consulates of the various Powers, and left copies of the resolutions. The Grecian flag has replaced the Cretan over the Governor's Palace and other public buildings, amid unceasing cheers. The people attempted to hoist the Greek flag over the fortress, but French troops prevented this. Later five members of the Ministry announced compliance with the people's decision.
