TOURIST AND HEALTH RESORTS.

The annual report of the Tourist and Health Resorts Department shows that there was a decrease of

1,082 visitors from oversea as compared with the previous year, which, owing to the Christchurch Exhibition, was an abnormal one in that respect. As compared with the 1905-6 year, the figures for last year show an increase of 1,460. The majority of the visitors came from Australia. The value of the year's tourist traffic to this country is estimated at £430,000. It is stated that it will be possible this year to greatly reduce the vote required from the Public Works Fund for improvements in connection with tourist resorts.
