Mr L. A. Abraham has been elected president of the Manawatu Polo Club for the 1908-9 season, to be opened on October 12th. Mr J. Hennesey, of Masterton, .arrived in Wellington, yesterday, by the Athenic, after visiting the Franco - British Exhibition, and Irelaaad. Mr G. H. Jenkinson, Inspector in charge of the Wellington and wairarapa stock districts, arrived in Masterton from Wellington last evening, on business in connection with his Department. Advice has been, received in Palmerston North that Mr J. G. Gilberd, secretary of the United Fire Brigades Association, who has been on a visit to England, left' London last week for New Zeatand, greatly improved by the medical advice received. The death occurred at Carterton yesterday morning, of Mr Edward Collins, ' son of Mrs C. Collins, of Kuripuni, after a lingering illness. The deceased, who was 34 years of age, had been an inmate of Otaki i sanatorium for a period, but its ' curative treatment was unavailing. The deceased leaves a widow and four young children to mourn their loss. The funeral will leave St. Patrick's Church at 2, o'clock on Thursday afternoon for the Masterton Cemetery.
