MASTERTON RACING CLUB.

MONTHLY MEETING OF STEWARDS.

The Stewards of the Masterton Racing Club met on Saturday afternoon. There were present—Messrs C. F. Vallance (in the chair), A. J. ■ Welch, W. Piatt, R. Buick, J. lorns, J. Cress, C. H. Smith, D. McLachlan, A. G. Pilmer, 0. C. Cooper, J. Macara and C. A. Fownall. Several apologies for absence were received. The Wellington Racing Club forwarded the following licenses:—Jockeys, J. J. Burns and M. McGrath; trainers, G. Hastings, M. McGrath and J. Phillips. The resignation of a member was accepted. Mr F. Hill wrote intimating that he would be able to act as Clerk of Scales at the forthcoming meeting. It was resolved to recommend the following for licenses:—Gentlemen rider?, F. Dorset and J. Savage; trainers, J. J. Cooper; jockeys, R. McGregor. A discussion ensued as to the fees to be charged to bookmakers at the coming meeting. It was finally resolved to fix the amounts at £ls 10s inside, and £lO 10s outside, to include a clerk in each instance. Four new members were elected. The Chairman and Messrs Cress and Macara were appointed a committee to attend to the sales of privileges for the Spring meeting. The Treasurer reported a credit balance at the bank of £3B 15s 2d. On the motion of Mr U. C. Cooper, the recommendations passed by the recent conference at Masterton of various Club delegates regarding the issue of complimentary tickets were adopted, the rules to come into force on January Ist. Mr Pownall wished to have the portion of the recommendation regarding luncheon tickets deleted entirely, and substitute a rule that no free lunch tickets be issued, but after a brief discussion he agreed, to withdraw it. It was decided to engage Mr Walden as course detective for the coming meeting and to secure the service of the ambulance corps to the number of six. Messrs Pownall, Cress and Buick were appointed a committee to attend to the issue of bookmakers' licenses. The officials for the next meeting were appointed, the positions being allotted similarly to last menting, with a minor exception. The meeting then adjourned. ' ,
