WELLINGTON LAND BOARD.
At the monthly meeting of the "Wellington Land Board on Thursday, .iMr Jas. Mackenzie (Crown Lands •Commissioner) presided, and Messrs .A. Reese, J- Dawson,J. M. A'Court,
•-and C. J. Canton were also present. 'Various applications for the purchase lease of Crown lands in the district were approved by the Board as follow:—S. J. Clark, 78 acres 2 roods, ■■section 53, block 1, Mount Cerberus, ,:rent £4 17s 4d; H. T. Ellingham, 199 acres 3 roods, sections 50 and ■ 51, block 12, Mount Cerberus,. rent £l2 18s 2d; Mary Tait, 5 acres 3 roods, section 106, block 6, Mangahao, rent £2. Mr J. P. Hansen, lessee ot section •42, Hastwell Village Settlement, applied for the fee simple of the land, :in terms of section 177 of the Land .Act, 1908, it being resolved to ap■.poiotMrJ. B. F. Sutherland, Crown Lands Ranger, appraiser to make the required valuation. Transfers as under were approved on the usual conditions:—Section 28, Pahiatua V.S., A. M. M. Olsen *>. to W. Olsen; section .10, block 1, .Mount Cerberus, F. J. Gilbert to W. 'T. Gilbert; section 59, block 8, :.Mangahao, L. Tipping to A. T. .Smith. Messrs Smith and McSherry forwarded an application from Mr W. Mason to transfer section 40, block '7, Tararua, to Mr W. S. Teange, •one of the conditions being that the transfer was not to be finally com■pleted until October 14th, 1918. Tne •application was declined in its present form. Mr E. J. 'Whyte's renewed application to transfer section 13, block 4, Tararua, to Mr Robert Kenny, 'was declined. Mr W. Holdern applied to transfer .sections 38 and 27, blocks 2 and 4, Mount Cereberusto Mr R. Toucher, the Board reFclving to approve the ■ application provided the proposed ' transferee wa3 eligible. A report being received from the •Crowns Land Ranger on Mr J. •Croft's application to transfer part 11 of section 8, block 14,-Mangahao, to Mr P. Lawson, it was resolved to : refuse on the ground of ineligibility. Mr J. D. Smith, manager for W. ..Booth and Co., Carterton, attended •with reference to the demand made by the Board for payment of £39 8s 3d for timber cut without permission on part of the forest reserve on block1, Tiffin.—lt was resolved to reduce the charge to Is per 100 ft. j Mr Smith also asked for the -Board's v permission to construct Bnd ■work a tramway across Mr E. W. Spooner's pastoral run, sections 3, 4, etc., block 13, Mangawhero, etc.— The matter was left in the hands of the Commissioner. Mr R. T. Pownall, lessee of part 10 of Eection 8, block 14, Mangahao, applied for permission to let his 7:roomed house on the section, he Jived in a 4-rooraed cottage opposite, . which he intended moving or to the land shortly.—This was approved on the usual conditions. Mr J. C. E. Chapman made application for permission to sub-let sections 13, block 9, and section 28, block 5, Huangarua (Tawaha), to his "brother for a year or three years, as he works for his mother-in-law on her section ,9, Tawaha Settlement, as she does not wish her daughter to Jeave her.—lt was resolved to decline for the present. The Board resolved to take no action in the meantime with reference to the non residence of Mr J. T. Bickneil on his section 2, Tawaha Settlement. It was resolved to approve of Mr C Blake residing with his wife and family on his freehold section, part of section 268, block 15, Miki Miki, in lieu of residing on aecti®n 3, block 10, Miki Miki, so long as he continued to reside on his freehold land in a bona fide manner. A report from the Crown Lands Ranger that Mrs M. A. Newcombe, 1 licensee of section 28, block 4, Puketoi, was residing with her,' husband on his, section 27, adjoining, was accepted as satisfactory in the meantime. It was decided to call upon the following lessees to show cause why their respective interests in the sections named should not be declared forfeited for non-compliance with the conditions of lease:—Mr C. A. : Barrall, section, block 18, Mangahan; | Mr Thos. McLean, section 10, Pongaroa. , ' The Akitio County Council submitted proposals for the expenditure -of £978, lis 7d, "thirds" accrued on a number of sections. The ranger reported favourably on the scheme, and the Board gave /its approval. The Board also approved of proposals submitted by the Wairarapa South County Council for the expenditure of "thirds" accrued on a number of sections. The ranger reported favourably, on the scheme, - --*-*h<-sum involved being £149 9s 4d.
