A WARNING DISREGARDED,
THOUSAND PERSONS
DROWNED
Received October 1, 8.30 a.m. CALCUTTA, September 30. Although the Government warned dwellers along the banks of the Musi to escape the flood, a thousand were drowned, chiefly women and children, Elephants are being employed to drag the bodies out of the sticky mud in order to avoid a pestilence. FLOOD WORSE THAN FIRST REPORTED. DEATH ROLL ESTIMATED AT TEN THOUSAND. Received October 1, 11.45 p.m. CALCUTTA, October 1. The flood at Hartdarabad is worse than was at first reported. Oie estimate mentions the death roll as ten thousand.
