BOROUGH WORKS COMMITTEE.

At a meeting of the Works and Finance Committee, held on Tuesday September 22nd, there were present —The Mayor (in the chair), Crs Elliott, Ewington, Haughey, Hunter, Morris, Pauling, Pragnell, Prentice and Yarr. Accounts totalling £932 15a 3d were pasned for payment. A deputation from the Ladies' Swimming Club waited upon the Committee to urge their requirements for the approaching bathing season. —The Committee decided n"t to come to any conclusion upon the suggestions until a decision had been arrived at upon the application of the unexpended balance o£ the £25,000 loan. The Committee instructed the Act-ing-Town Cleik to invitu applications for the position of Custodian uj.-on the same terms end conditions as the appointment was made last year. I A report was received from the Manager of the Abattoir that he had, on medical advice, extended Jorgensen's leave of absence for a further four weeks.—The Committee approved of the Manager's actbn. An application was received from Mr M. Caselberg fur 1 J-incJi supply by meter in lieu of twu | inch service to his premises in Worksop Road.—The Committee regarding this property as being in a special circun stance recommended that the request be granted subject that tie meter be supplied at the applicants cost; the minimum charge lor such supply at 4d per 1.000 gallons be the amount which would be chargeable on the rating value at the basis of the ordinary supply; that if the supply by meter at the 3aid rate of 4d per I~COO gallons exceeds such minimum charge that the same be paid by the applicant; that the Council reserves to itself the right to discontinue such special supply upon two wteks' notice. The application of,. Mr W. G. Lamb for an extension of the Boiough's mains was considered in conjunction with the report of the Borough Engineer.—The Committee . resolved that the Council regrets for financial reasons its inability to grant the request.
